WalkAbout : My epic Thailand adventure MARKETS

So if you have already read my post about Thailand STREET FOOD you know I am excited to be sharing my recent journey to Phuket, Patong and Karon.
One of my very favorite parts of traveling is to explore the night markets. To see the locals in their element, selling their wares, cooking and eating delicious foods. The smells are crazy, usually the food itself is somewhat crazy but its the whole experience I love.
I am literally like a kid in a candy store.

We tried lots of different things - but here are some of the favorites below…. including the Video of me eating my first grasshopper. Yes. Fried Bugs.

Khanom Buang Thai: A crepe w shredded coconut and a basic white cream made of egg whites, palm sugar, and a few drops of lime juice.
Tod Man Pla -Fish Cakes - fresh fried and served in a plastic bag with spicy chilli sauce, cucumber and cilantro…. and drum roll please. 8 cakes for 20 Baht. Yes, less than $1.

Happy and in sensory overload :)

Assorted dumplings and Dim Sum. I loved the colors and seeing the little steamed pillows of goodness all presented side by side in huge steamer baskets.

The Happy Hubby and Wife - Grant and Kass

Hmm. Gotta love the meat dept with lot’s of interesting bits/ genitals. I couldn’t help thinking of Andrew Zimmern while I was there…. Not my bag, baby. Not my bag.

Horseshoe Crabs ( minus the cooler - eek ) These guys are wild looking.

I loved seeing all the crabs in a row. Such beautiful textures and shapes.

The Thai’s love food on a stick. The pork is called Mu Ping but I also tried Shrimp sausage which was an interesting experience

They even stuff a squid on a stick…. these were good!

Locals Markets out of town near Kammala

Seafood salad with bean thread noodles… Ready to be scooped and spooned into bags to eat as you go.

Making fresh spring rolls with pork and pork crackle. So delicious. Apparently these are a little import from Chinese/Vietnamese cuisine. Oh well. Love thy neighbor

Amazing fried snacks with whole river prawns and greens. It was like a big savory seafood’y pancake. Hello!

My little gang of friends at the Markets…. the full moon wine cooler crew ;)

And here we are…. it is the video evidence that I ate a grasshopper. Buggy and salty and not all that bad ;)

The assortment of fried critters ….. these were the ‘small’ ones

Meet the PIMPS. I was not game enough to chomp on these. No way. No How.
