Brunch at Double Crown

It’s not often you have a Sunday morning brunch with 13 people and it goes off without a hitch…. throw in a last minute reservation and 2 babies and I bet you’re thinking….. “No way Jose”
Double Crown 316 Bowery (At Bleecker St) saved my ass on Sunday.. they then delighted my friends with rocking food and fantastic service.

I have been to Double Crown numerous times before. They have a gorgeous space - conceived by the AvroKO Hospitality Group and food from Executive Chef Brad Farmerie. If these names sound familiar its because they creators of NoLIta’s PUBLIC & The Monday Room and have one numerous awards and garnered a tonne of press.

Everytime I am here, the food is excellent. I love their creative mix of British and South East Asian cuisine and another perk, especially for Brunch is their ‘Do It Yourself Bloody Mary Bar “

For brunch today I thought I would steer away from my usual suspect of Sambal Prawns and order something different….
Several people at the table were salivating over the thought of the Crispy Pork Belly on steamed rice with chili caramel, mint and fried egg…. and I am happy to say, it did not disappoint!

Rich pork belly bathed in a sticky and spicy chili caramel sauce atop fragrant steamed rice, pickled cucumber and runny yolk from the fried egg dripping over all of it.
I tried to balance every bite with a little rice, pork, yolk and chili sauce….and there was not a morsel left on my plate.

One dish I also love for brunch and I have probably had here 5 or 6 times is the Grilled Sambal Prawns & Scrambled Eggs with avocado and tomato salad which my friend Rosie’s mum ordered next to me today.

The large head on Prawns remind me of the seafood we get in Australia and I also love the soft scrambled eggs with a little avocado + tomato salad. Something about the creamy avocado + egg combination and then a little acidity from the tomatoes balances so well with the big juicy prawns.

I could go on and on about Double Crown. Their Nyonya Tasting menu is unreal…. I also took myself on a date here once- one of those solo, dine at the bar outings where you order way too much food for one person…. just because you can and you want to try more than one dish…. wait… you don’t do that? Just me?
Oh well. ;)
